For those of you who have not been keeping up with the PGA Tour and wish to expand your knowledge of the top players, this is for you. Despite the emergence of the Saudi-backed golf league LIV, the PGA Tour still has the best golfers in the world. There is a plethora of talent, with young guys like Will Zalatoris, Cameron Young, and Collin Morikawa. There is still plenty of veteran talent; Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Patrick Cantlay highlight the bunch. Despite all the amazing players, there are three guys who currently stand above the rest.

Irishman Rory McIlroy had one of the best starts to a career ever, winning four majors before his 25th birthday. Rory has been unable to capture a major since, but he has maintained his stellar play, winning the FedEx Cup, which saw him finish the 2022 season number one in the Official World Golf Rankings. Despite winning the CJ Cup in October and the Dubai Desert Classic, Rory has dropped to #3. This is not as much a fault of Rory’s play but rather the superb play of the two guys ahead of him.

Over a year ago, Scottie Scheffler sat outside the top-15 in the OWGR and had no career PGA Tour wins. Scheffler then proceeded to win the Waste Management Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC Match Play, and ultimately the Masters in a span of two months. These wins catapulted Scheffler to world number one, a spot that he lost in October to Rory but was able to regain following his victory at this year’s Waste Management Open in early February.
Scheffler’s second stint as world number one only lasted a week as Jon Rahm won the Genesis Invitational this past weekend to regain the top spot for the fifth time in his career. The Spaniard is currently during the best run in his illustrious career. Rahm has finished top-10 in all seven of his starts this season, capturing victories at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, The American Express, and the Genesis Invitational.
