It was a battle of Kentucky rivals as Louisville City FC welcomed Lexington SC for a heated USL Cup matchup between two clubs separated by just 64 miles along Interstate 64. Louisville entered the contest looking to continue its strong start to the 2026 campaign after one of the most successful regular seasons in club history ended in heartbreaking fashion last year. Lou City was the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed, boasting a record-setting offense, and carrying a four-month unbeaten streak into the postseason.
But LouCity suffered a stunning 1-0 loss to Detroit City FC in the USL Championship Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. This season, Louisville has quickly returned to form. The club entered the match atop the USL Cup standings with eight points, one point ahead of Indy Eleven through three matches.
