- What got you into sports writing and radio work? I got into sports writing and radio work because I love sports and enjoy writing. Working in a field I’m passionate about has always been my dream, so I decided to pursue sports writing and radio work.
- What is your favorite sport and why? My favorite sport is baseball because I grew up playing it and I love the competitive atmosphere. Whether it’s cheering up the team when they’re down, strategizing to improve teamwork, or showcasing pitching skills, the energy of baseball always makes me feel involved and passionate about the sport.
- What is your favorite sports moment? My favorite sports moment has to be when Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors to win the NBA championship by scoring 50 points. It was incredible to witness his skill and leadership shine brightly on such a grand stage back in 2022.
- What is your favorite music? My favorite music is bachata because it’s deeply ingrained in my country’s culture (Dominican Republic), and country music because it feels so familiar and resonates with me on a personal level.
- What do you want to work in sports? I want to work in sports as a sports writer because I’m passionate about analyzing athletes and writing articles that capture their stories and performances. It’s a way for me to blend my love for sports with my skills in writing and analysis.
- Where are some places you’d like to visit? Some of the places I’d love to visit are Jamaica, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Each of these destinations offers unique cultures, beautiful landscapes, and rich histories that I’m eager to explore.

Mikal Bridges Traded to Knicks in Blockbuster
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the New York Knicks are acquiring forward Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets. It was the first major move of the NBA offseason. This brings Bridges to a roster with familiar faces. Bridges reunites with his former college teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo. They won an NCAA National Championship with Villanova in 2018. They will showcase a chemistry that the Knicks hope will translate to the NBA.

In exchange for Bridges, the Knicks are sending Bojan Bogdanovic to the Nets. Also the Knicks are trading a substantial number of picks. Four unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027, 2029, 2031), a 2025 protected first-round pick from Milwaukee, a 2028 unprotected pick swap, and a 2025 second-round pick will be traded. The Knicks will also receive a 2026 second-round pick from the Nets as part of the deal. This haul reflects the high value placed on Bridges and the Knicks commitment to bolstering their roster.
This move marks the Knicks first major transaction of the offseason as they look to re-sign key free agents OG Anunoby. They took a blow with Isaiah Hartenstein signing to the Thunder. Both players were crucial to New York’s playoff success. Anunoby signed a huge contract to stay in New York. The acquisition of Bridges may complicate the Knicks championship dreams.

Bridges was selected with the tenth overall pick by his hometown team Philadelphia 76ers. He was traded on draft night to the Phoenix Suns in for Zhaire Smith and a 2021 first-round pick. Bridges joined the Suns for the 2018 NBA Summer League and signed a four-year, $17.6 million rookie-scale contract. His career took another turn on February 9, 2023, when the Suns traded Bridges to the Brooklyn Nets. He helped the Suns reach the Finals in the 2021-2022 season
He was traded for Cameron Johnson, Jae Crowder, four unprotected first-round picks, and a 2028 first-round pick swap in exchange for Kevin Durant and T.J. Warren. The Knicks move for Bridges signifies a step forward from the laughing stock they once were. With his defensive prowess, scoring ability, and familiarity with several key Knicks players, Bridges is expected to make an immediate impact. As the offseason progresses, the Knicks will continue to maneuver their roster and cap space to maximize their potential for the upcoming season.
Deion Sanders Commits to CU Amidst Challenges
The Colorado Buffaloes football team underwent a serious transformation from last year. New leadership and a significant roster overhaul is set for 2024. In 2023, with the hiring of Deion Sanders, the program saw an influx of transfer portal players that changed the team’s trajectory. Shilo, Shedeur Sanders, and two-way star Travis Hunter will all likely leave this year but Sanders remains stern that he’s playing the long game. Sanders reflected on his role as a leader and father on the “Big Noon Conversations with Joel Klatt Show”.

“I’m a leader of men, not a follower of men,” Sanders asserted. “I’m a father, not a baby daddy. I lead my sons, I don’t follow my sons.”
Sanders emphasized that his sons, along with Travis Hunter, are setting a foundation. Colorado started 3-0 last year with a road victory against a ranked TCU team. But the success was short-lived. Colorado lost eight of its final nine games. They showed flashes of good football but it was a roller coaster ride. A main reason for the decline was the offensive line. It struggled all year. Improvement in this area was critical going into the offseason. The line must become significantly better for CU to strive. If Shedeur Sanders can get adequate protection, his potential to dominate is immense.

Defensively, the Buffaloes faced difficulties. They ranked fourth-worst in the nation, giving up 453 yards per game, ranked 124th in scoring defense, and gave up 34.8 points per game. Colorado has brought in several new players for this season. The defensive line has been completely made over, the line includes talent from the Pitt defensive front. Dayon Hayes will play one end, Samuel Okunlola will play the other, and Houston transfer Chidozie Nwankwo will be at nose tackle.
The upcoming season will test the remade roster and progress of the Buffaloes. The Pac-12 was one of the best conferences last year. Will going into the Big-12 be easier? With Deion Sanders at the helm, the team is poised to continue laying the groundwork for a stronger future. Sanders remains focused on the long-term vision. His five-year contract, signed in 2022, extends through December 2027. He claimed numerous times that CU is home and he wants to win a National Championship there.
Tennessee Wins First College World Series Championship
The University of Tennessee’s men’s baseball team clinched their first-ever National Championship in the NCAA Men’s College World Series with a thrilling 6-5 victory over Texas A&M on Monday, June 24. The championship game, held in Omaha, Nebraska, was a high-stakes showdown played under the sweltering 100-degree heat. Both teams displayed exceptional skill and determination. From the very start, the Tennessee Volunteers set the tone.

In the bottom of the first inning, Christian Moore, in his first at-bat, delivered a powerful homer to left field, putting Tennessee on the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead. This early momentum energized the team and their supporters. Texas A&M, however, was quick to respond. In the third inning, a critical error by the Volunteers allowed Travis Chestnut to double. Chestnut then stole third base, positioning himself to score. Gavin Grahovac’s single brought Chestnut home, leveling the score at 1-1.
The Volunteers didn’t stay quiet for long. With RBIs from Dylan Dreiling and Dean Curley, Tennessee regained the lead, bringing the score to 3-1 by the end of the third inning. Zander Sechrist, Tennessee’s starting pitcher, played a crucial role, striking out batters consecutively and maintaining the lead until he was relieved in the middle of the sixth inning. The seventh inning saw Tennessee extend their advantage. Dylan Dreiling hit a home run, also bringing Billy Amick home, pushing the score to 5-1.

Dreiling’s performance was particularly notable as he achieved the rare feat of hitting a homer in each game of the championship series. Kavares Tears added another RBI, batting in Hunter Ensley to make it 6-1. Despite the mounting pressure, Texas A&M refused to surrender. The Aggies capitalized on wild pitches thrown by Tennessee’s Nate Snead, which allowed Jackson Appel to steal bases and eventually score on Hayden Schott’s single. Caden Sorrell’s double to center field brought Schott home, narrowing the gap to 6-3.
The tension peaked in the top of the ninth inning. Texas A&M’s relentless pursuit continued with an RBI from Appel, who then scored on a wild pitch, bringing the score to a nail-biting 6-5. The Volunteers’ lead was perilously thin. With the game on the line, Tennessee’s Aaron Combs took the mound, his focus razor-sharp.
Facing Texas A&M’s Ted Burton, who stood undeterred despite being down two strikes, Combs delivered his fourth pitch. Burton swung and missed, sealing the historic victory for Tennessee. The Tennessee Volunteers’ triumph in the NCAA Men’s College World Series marked a significant milestone in the university’s sports history. Their journey to the championship was characterized by resilience, teamwork, and a series of unforgettable moments that will be cherished by the team and their fans for years to come.
Cavaliers Hires Kenny Atkinson as Head Coach
The Cleveland Cavaliers made a significant move by appointing Kenny Atkinson as their next head coach. Atkinson has been an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors since he stepped down as the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets in 2020. He brings a wealth of experience and a reputation for rebuilding teams, a skill set the Cavaliers will find invaluable. Atkinson is replacing J.B. Bickerstaff. Bickerstaff guided the team to its first berth in the Eastern Conference semifinals in six seasons. This was the most success has had during both times Lebron James left the team.

Atkinson’s Coaching Journey
Kenny Atkinson’s coaching career began when he joined the New York Knicks coaching staff as an assistant under Mike D’Antoni. After four seasons with the Knicks, Atkinson went to coach with the Atlanta Hawks in 2012 under Mike Budenholzer. His time with the Hawks built up his reputation as a developer of talent. In 2016, Atkinson took over as head coach for the Brooklyn Nets.
His tenure with the Nets helped the team show significant improvements. Under his leadership, the Nets achieved a 42–40 record, a 14-game improvement over the previous season in his third season, and secured a playoff berth as the sixth seed. It was their best season since Paul Pierce and Kevin Garrnet left the team after being traded from Boston. Although the Nets were eliminated by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, Atkinson’s ability to transform the team was evident. He coached Kryie Irving as Kevin Durant recovered from injury.
From Player to Coach
Before his coaching career, Atkinson was a professional basketball player. Born in Huntington, New York, he played college basketball at the University of Richmond. There, he led the Richmond Spiders to a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the 1988 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, showcasing his leadership and skills on the court. He averaged 18.9 points per game during his senior season at Richmond. Overseas he played professionally in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands from 1993 to 2004. He was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.

NFL Announces 2024 Class of “Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative”
Diverse students from 21 medical schools will complete clinical rotations with NFL club medical staffs across the league

NEW YORK — June 25, 2024 — The National Football League, together with the NFL Physicians Society (NFLPS) and the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS), today announced the roster of medical students who will participate in the third year of the NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative. Launched in 2022, the league-wide program aims to increase and diversify the pipeline of students interested in pursuing careers in sports medicine and, over time, help to diversify NFL club medical staffs.
Students from 21 medical schools have been matched with NFL clubs across the league for one-month clinical rotations focused on primary care sports medicine and/or orthopedic surgery. The rotations provide students with the opportunity to learn from and work directly with club medical staff as they deliver care to players across the league. Student clinical rotations will begin as training camps open for the 2024 NFL season next month.

During their one-month rotations, students will observe and participate in the care of NFL players, working directly with and under the supervision of the orthopedic team physicians, primary care team physicians, athletic trainers, dietitians, mental health clinicians, strength & conditioning coaches, equipment managers, and others to gain medical knowledge and exposure to patient care in sports medicine. Students will also become familiar with return-to-play protocols and on-field treatment considerations for NFL players. By the end of the rotation, students will understand the basic elements of all facets of care provided to NFL players from an orthopedic, primary care sports medicine and athletic training perspective.
Since expanding the initiative league-wide last season, the NFL has been working to include additional disciplines and roles from the its player care “Team Behind the Team” in the program, including physician assistants, certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nutritionists and behavioral health clinicians. The NFL, NFLPS and PFATS are also partnering with clubs to help expose high school students to the field of sports medicine through community events.
The Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative is part of the league’s broader commitment to ensure that staff and leaders in the league office and at NFL clubs reflect the racial and gender makeup of America.

Cordale Russell Transferring from TCU to Colorado
Cordale Russell, a 6’4”, 210-pound freshman from Mesquite, Texas, is making a significant move. He’s transferring to the Colorado Buffaloes after spending one season at TCU. With this transfer, Russell brings four years of eligibility to Colorado, providing a long-term asset for the Buffaloes’ football program. A highly-touted four-star prospect coming out of high school, Russell showcased his potential early on.

At TCU, he appeared in three games during the 2023 season, gaining valuable experience at the collegiate level. According to 247 Sports, he is ranked as the No. 144 player overall in the transfer portal and the No. 28 receiver, highlighting his promise and potential impact. During his senior year at North Mesquite High School, Russell demonstrated his versatility and athleticism. He amassed 34 receptions for 725 yards and nine touchdowns. He also played on the defensive side of the ball as an edge rusher.
His impressive performance earned him Texas District 11-6A Newcomer of the Year honors as a sophomore. During the season he recorded 38 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns. Russell’s addition to Colorado’s roster for the 2024 season is a strategic move, as he joins a high-powered offense. The Buffaloes boast a talented group of receivers, including two-way star Travis Hunter, Vanderbilt transfer Will Sheppard, and Florida Atlantic transfer LaJohntay Wester. Following the departure of Kirk Cousins, the Washington Commanders have struggled tremendously to find a franchise quarterback. Unfortunately, these quarterbacks have been set up for failure by an unstable front office and coaching staff. It has led to a cycle of inconsistency and unmet expectations.

Rockies Win on Pitch-Clock Violation Against Nationals
In a high-scoring affair at Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies defeated the Washington Nationals 8-7. With the game ending on a pitch-clock violation against Nationals’ closer Kyle Finnegan (2-4). The Rockies took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single by catcher Jacob Stallings. The Nationals quickly responded with two runs in the third, taking a 2-1 lead.

Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers, in his first game back from a hamstring injury. He hit a 436-foot three-run home run to center, putting the Rockies ahead 4-2. After a scoreless fourth inning, Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams hit a 411-foot solo homer to right-center off Rockies’ starter Cal Quantrill, narrowing the lead to 4-3. Quantrill pitched six innings, allowing three runs with five strikeouts and one walk.
This marked his fourth consecutive outing of at least five innings. During which he has pitched two shutouts and gone 3-1. Since joining the Rockies from Cleveland in the offseason, he has been their most consistent pitcher. He boasts a 6-5 record with a 3.50 ERA. Postgame, Quantrill commented on the historic ending: “Don’t think I’ve ever seen that one, but I think Mac (McMahon) would’ve gotten it done either way.”
The Nationals rallied against the Rockies’ bullpen after Quantrill’s exit. In the seventh inning, reliever Jake Bird walked catcher Keibert Ruiz and allowed a bunt single to center fielder Jacob Young. Abrams then singled to right, scoring pinch-runner Drew Millas and tying the game at 4-4. After Stallings threw out Abrams attempting to steal second—one of three throw-outs on the night—Bird left with groin tightness. The Nationals took advantage, as right fielder Lane Thomas hit an RBI single to center off reliever Justin Lawrence, giving the Nationals a 5-4 lead.

Nationals’ starter Mitchell Parker (4-4, 3.30 ERA) pitched six innings, allowing four runs with eight strikeouts and two walks. The Rockies tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh. A 447-foot solo home run by designated hitter Hunter Goodman off Nationals reliever Jacob Barnes. The game quickly shifted as second baseman Luis García Jr. hit a 438-foot two-run home run to center off Lawrence. He capitalized on a throwing error by Tovar that allowed first baseman Joey Meneses to reach base.
The Rockies responded again in the eighth, with Ryan McMahon hitting a 367-foot solo home run to left off reliever Hunter Harvey, cutting the Nationals’ lead to 7-6. Rockies’ reliever Jalen Beeks (4-3) then pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth, setting the stage for the Rockies’ final rally. Goodman and right fielder Jake Cave began the bottom of the ninth with consecutive singles. Center fielder Brenton Doyle then singled to left, scoring Goodman to tie the game at 7.
Tovar singled to right, loading the bases, and McMahon, who went 3-4 on the night with two RBIs, came to bat. With a 3-2 count, Finnegan was called for a pitch-clock violation, scoring Cave and giving the Rockies the victory. For the Rockies, Tovar went 2-3 with two walks. Rodgers went 1-4 with a three-run home run, and Goodman went 2-4 with a solo home run. For the Nationals, García Jr. went 1-4 with a two-run home run. His second consecutive game with a home run, Abrams went 3-5 with two RBIs and a solo homer, and Thomas went 2-5 with two RBIs.
The Rockies snapped a two-game skid and will meet the Nationals in the rubber match tomorrow at Coors Field. It was the finale of an 11-game homestand. LHP Kyle Freeland (0-3, 13.21 ERA), who has not pitched for the Rockies in almost 70 days, returns after being on the 60-day IL with an elbow injury. RHP Jake Irvin (5-6, 3.24 ERA) will start for the Nationals.
Texas A&M Men’s Baseball One Step Closer to First National Championship
Texas A&M defeated the University of Tennessee 9-5 in game 1 of the Men’s College World Series Championship on Saturday, June 22. The game took place at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska, which has been the home of the NCAA’s College World Series since 1950. The warm, sunny day set the stage for an intense battle as both teams vied for their first national championship.

The Aggies started strong with a leadoff home run by Gavin Grahovac. Jackson Appel then scored, driven in by Caden Sorrell, ending the first inning with a 2-0 lead. Tennessee responded in the bottom of the second when Dean Curley’s single brought in Dylan Dreiling, making it 2-1. Texas A&M surged ahead in the third inning, scoring five runs.
Hayden Schott and Caden Sorrell each contributed an RBI, and a throwing error by Tennessee’s third baseman, Billy Amick, allowed Ted Burton to score. Kaeden Kent’s single added two more RBIs, bringing the score to 7-1. Tennessee managed another run in the bottom of the third with an RBI by Hunter Ensley, closing the gap to 7-2. In the top of the seventh, Kaeden Kent hit a home run, batting in Ali Camarillo and extending A&M’s lead to 9-2.
