Bills Hold Off Lions in a High Scoring Matchup

The Buffalo Bills defeated the Detroit Lions 41-31 on Thursday night in their first game at Highmark Stadium. It showed strong offensive performances from both teams. The Bills got off to an incredibly hot start. They scored on each of their first four possessions and built a 27-10 lead at half. Bills quarterback Josh Allen played a major role. He used both his arms and legs to keep the Lions’ defense off balance. Allen finished the game with 248 yards passing yards with three passing touchdowns.

He added 69 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Detroit had lots of issues containing Allen due to his ability to make plays outside of the pocket. Buffalo scored first with a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Allen. The Bills then extended their lead when Allen connected with Josh Palmer for a 43-yard passing touchdown. Bills tight ends also had a great night. Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid both finding the end zone. Detroit struggled early, but the Lions found their rhythm in the 3rd.

Jared Goff connected with Jahmyr Gibbs for an 11-yard touchdown. The Lions added a field goal before half, but the score was still 27-10 going into halftime. Detroit came out of halftime and made the game competitive. Goff threw to Amon-Ra St. Brown for a 2-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, making the score 27-17. The Bills responded with another scoring drive, but the Lions wouldn’t go away.

Goff found Sam LaPorta in the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, bringing the Lions to a 10-point deficit at 34-24. Buffalo put the game out of reach when James Cook III scored on a 1-yard touchdown. Detroit responded with one final touchdown after Goff connected with St. Brown for a 27-yard touchdown. The Lions couldn’t complete the comeback. St. Brown had an amazing night for Detroit.

He finished with nine receptions for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Goff also had a good performance, completing 26 of 38 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns. The Bills’ early lead was too difficult to overcome. The Bills finished with 446 yards, with 203 rushing yards. Detroit recorded 355 total yards with 66 rushing yards. The Bills are now 2-0, while the Lions dropped to 1-1.

For the Bills, the win provided an important win for their team and fans in their new stadium. Buffalo will look to remain undefeated in its next game, while Detroit will have the opportunity to respond in its next game. In a game filled with big plays, touchdowns and highlights, the Bills built a big early lead and their ability to respond when Detroit threatened was the difference in this game.
