Baseball Drops Finale to Maryland
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 10, 2026) – Rutgers baseball dropped Sunday’s series finale to Maryland by a score of 11-7 at Bainton Field.
The Scarlet Knights (24-27, 11-16) were unable to complete the series sweep of the Terrapins (24-28, 7-20) but still won the weekend series after victories on Friday and Saturday.
It was a back-and-forth affair, with the lead changing hands five times during the game, but the Terps held on in the Sunday slugfest that featured 18 combined runs and seven home runs.
While Maryland took the lead on an unearned run in the first, RU responded with a three-run homer from Ryan Jaros in the bottom half to jump in front.
Charlie Meglio led off the second with a solo shot and an RBI sac bunt from Jack Sweeney pushed the advantage to 5-1.
In the third, Maryland used a sac fly and three-run homer to tie the game before jumping ahead in the fifth on a solo homer.
Trey Wells launched RU’s third homer of the day in the bottom of the fifth to tie it up before Jaros scored on a wild pitch to give the Scarlet Knights a 7-6 advantage.
That would be the last lead of the day for Rutgers, as Maryland hit homers in the seventh and eighth as well as a sac fly to go up 10-7.
The Terps were able to lock down the win with four scoreless innings of relief to close out the game and salvage the series.
Rutgers wraps up the regular season at Northwestern this week, with game one set for 4 p.m. ET on Thursday.
