NBA First Week Notable Performances

Basketball fans, the long-awaited 2026-27 NBA season has arrived. We’re back to high-flying dunks, logo threes, and incredible blocks. The first week of the NBA season has come to a close. Let’s take a look at who is red hot in their first appearance of the newNBA season.

Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves

“Ant-man” came out firing on all cylinders in their first game of the season against the Miami Heat. Edwards totaled 45 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, a couple steals, and a block. He also had incredible shooting splits, shooting 55 percent from the field and 52 percent from three. He was basically getting whatever he wanted. The biggest catalyst for this point explosion is the new addition of star point guard LaMelo Ball. Ball clearly spreads the floor for Edwards to operate. If this is how Minnesota basketball is going to be, then this will be the team to watch throughout the season.

Paul George, Boston Celtics

As a spectator of the game, it was very uncertain what the trajectory of this Boston Celtics team would be after splitting the Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown duo. After this stellar performance, I’m not saying all hope is restored, but there is now a chance of a light at the end of this tunnel. The 17-year veteran came out and put on a show in his Celtics debut. George had a stat line of 38 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a staggering 5 steals as well. With how Paul George was playing on the 76ers, I thought that we wouldn’t ever see a vintage performance like this again. Boy, did he prove me wrong! I also didn’t think they would beat the reigning NBA champions in the season opener, but here we are.

Luka Dončić, Los Angeles Lakers

I believe that I can speak for most NBA fans when I say that basketball fans have been waiting to see what Luka will do in the absence of LeBron James. Now we know. News flash: he’s really freaking good. In just 30 minutes, Dončić put up 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Not much to say about Dončić except for the fact that teams should be petrified to play this one-man wrecking crew. His defense isn’t the best in the league, but his offense sure is.
