The narrative is shifting for Missouri after a winless SEC season. This week, Dennis Gates and his team secured three promising transfers to bolster their 2024-2025 roster: Tony Perkins from Iowa, Marques Warrick from Northern Kentucky, and Mark Mitchell from Duke. These additions complement returning players like Tamar Bates, Jordan Butler, Aidan Shaw, and Anthony Robinson II, as well as the No. 4 recruiting class in the nation. Let’s delve into each new commitment:

Mark Mitchell: The forward, previously with Duke, is the latest pickup for MU. Mitchell, a former McDonald’s All-American, averaged 11.6 points and six rebounds last season for the Blue Devils. Hailing from Kansas City, Kansas, Mitchell brings a potent offensive presence, highlighted by two 23-point performances against Notre Dame and Wake Forest. At 6’ 9” and 232 pounds, he also fortifies Missouri’s defense, as evidenced by his three steals in Duke’s NCAA Tournament blowout over James Madison. His adjustment to Gates’ system after playing under Jon Scheyer will be intriguing to watch.

Tony Perkins: The addition of guard Tony Perkins addresses a crucial need for Gates’ squad. Perkins, who spent four seasons at Iowa, will utilize his final year of eligibility at Columbia. His consistent improvement at Iowa City culminated in averages of 14.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists last season. Memorable performances include a 24-point outing against Purdue and a versatile display against Michigan. Choosing Missouri over several competitive programs, Perkins brings a multifaceted skill set to the Tigers, excelling in shooting, driving, rebounding, and defense. His transition to Gates’ system, reminiscent of Fran McCaffery’s play style, promises intrigue.

Marques Warrick: MU strengthens its backcourt with the acquisition of Marques Warrick from Northern Kentucky. Warrick concluded a stellar season with the Norse, averaging 19.9 points and 2.4 assists while shooting 42.5% from the field. Notable performances include a 39-point effort against Wright State and a 35-point display in an overtime victory in the Horizon League Tournament. Named to the First Team All-Horizon League and earning NABC Division 1 All-District Second Team Honors, Warrick brings experience and accolades to Missouri. His performance in the SEC after transitioning from the Horizon League will be closely observed.
