During the live video, Morant seemed intoxicated and flashed a firearm. The gun would later result in a code of conduct violation and would cost Morant eight games without pay. The league conducted an investigation and would later determine that the firearm flashed by the Grizzlies guard was not his.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated, “Ja’s conduct was irresponsible, reckless, and potentially very dangerous. It also has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him. He has expressed sincere contrition and remorse for his behavior. Ja has also made it clear to me that he has learned from this incident and that he understands his obligations and responsibility to Memphis.”
Following the suspension, Morant was remorseful. Ja decided to check himself into a counseling facility in Florida while he was away from basketball. He spent 11 days at the facility to address his issues surrounding ways to manage stress.
