Ja Morant Returns

Ja Morant received a standing ovation after returning from 8 game suspension. At the beginning of March, Ja Morant had social media buzzing. He has a bright future but put that in jeopardy lately. The young NBA star went on Instagram live in a strip club located in Denver, Colorado.

During the live video, Morant seemed intoxicated and flashed a firearm. The gun would later result in a code of conduct violation and would cost Morant eight games without pay. The league conducted an investigation and would later determine that the firearm flashed by the Grizzlies guard was not his.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated, “Ja’s conduct was irresponsible, reckless, and potentially very dangerous. It also has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him. He has expressed sincere contrition and remorse for his behavior. Ja has also made it clear to me that he has learned from this incident and that he understands his obligations and responsibility to Memphis.”

Following the suspension, Morant was remorseful. Ja decided to check himself into a counseling facility in Florida while he was away from basketball. He spent 11 days at the facility to address his issues surrounding ways to manage stress.

He understood the severity of his actions, saying, “I am going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.”
