On Tuesday, during LSU’s 18- 4 victory over Southern University, Tre Morgan rewrote the record books by becoming the first Tiger to hit for the cycle in 13 years. When a batter reaches this milestone, he obtains a single, double, triple, and home run in a single game.

This achievement hasn’t happened since April 6, 2010, when they faced Alcorn State in Alex Box Stadium. Mikie Mahtook was only a sophomore outfielder when he hit for a cycle contributing to the team’s 17-5 win over the Alcorn State Braves that year. The Tigers started the game with a rough start, trailing behind 4-0 going into the bottom of the third inning.
However, they managed to bounce back due to an astonishing game from Tre Morgan.Morgan approached Tuesday’s matchup like no other. His game was patient, calculated, and “natural.” The junior baseman hit a single in the second inning, a double in the third, and a triple in the fifth inning. It was not until the bottom of the sixth inning that Morgan hit a homerun bringing three of his teammates into home plate.

The Tiger’s 18-4 victory over the Southern University Jaguars will go down as a comeback game in the record books. During this win, Morgan not only hit a cycle; but eight runs batted in. Morgan posted a 4-for-5 line, collecting a single in the second, a double in the third, and a triple in the fifth. He put an exclamation point on the outing with a dinger to right field in the sixth, officially completing the natural cycle.

LSU baseball head coach said, “Tre hit into a lot of tough luck over the weekend, but the numbers didn’t reflect the quality of his plate appearances. The numbers from the weekend didn’t tell the whole story, but the numbers certainly did tell the story today.” You will have an opportunity to see the Tigers compete again this weekend as they head to the Round Rock Classic to take on three different teams at Dell Diamond.
