Aaron Rodgers Offseason Moves

Aaron Rogers / (USATSI)

Aaron Rodgers at 38, has maintained he doesn’t plan to drag out questions about his future.  Whether he intends to return to Green Bay, request a trade, or retire, his move will have a ripple effect throughout the league. If he was traded, here are the best trade packages a team could offer.

Denver Broncos

6 reasons the Denver Broncos logo design works hero Broncos receive: Rodgers, 2022 fourth-round pick

Packers receive: 2022 first-round pick, 2022 second-round pick, 2023 first-round pick, 2023 fourth-round pick, QB Drew Lock

This trade would shake the AFC power structure. Denver is desperate to get better at quarterback. Teddy Bridgewater was good in spots, but injuries slowed him down again. The Broncos QB search has been going on since Peyton Manning rode off into the sunset after Super Bowl 50. Trading for Rodgers cleans up the QB issues and transforms the Broncos from AFC West also-ran to a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the blink of an eye. The Broncos have the skills players and young defense. The AFC West and conference overall would be loaded. Every team would have a shot at the playoffs. Unlike the other two teams, there is no young QB who is seeking to take over.

Miami Dolphins

Dolphins receive: Rodgers, 2023 fourth-round pick

Packers receive: 2022 first-round pick (via SF), 2022 second-round pick, 2023 first-round pick, 2023 first-round pick (via SF), 2023 third-round pick

Green Bay may want as many picks as possible. Miami posted a winning record each of the past two seasons and won 10 games in 2020. That includes all the drama that was surrounding the team we found out. Head coach Mike McDaniel has some things to work with as he takes the reins on South Beach. As a first-year head coach, having Rodgers would put McDaniel at ease. Tua Tagovailoa has led the team to victories when he’s healthy. But questions remain about his big playability. Miami has the draft capital to make the Packers an intriguing offer. The cap space is there with Miami’s $60.2 million cap space. It’s a league about the offense. The Dolphins could also trade Tua for a couple of drafts picks to QB needy team. The frozen tundra of Lambeau field to South Florida weather is a win.

Philadelphia Eagles

Eagles receive: Rodgers, 2022 fourth-round pick

Packers receive: 2022 first-round pick (via MIA), 2022 first-round pick (via IND), 2022 third-round pick, 2023 first-round pick, 2023 second-round pick, 2023 fourth-round pick

Philly has draft picks to give away. This trade would put him in an easy NFC division as the Cowboys would be the only threat. A Philly trade would be the least likely of the three to pull off a move for Rodgers. Trading the reigning MVP and possibly losing to him in the NFC playoffs is not conducive to job security. The less the Packers see of No. 12 after a potential divorce, the better. However, the Eagles can make Green Bay an offer no other team can. With three picks in the top 20 in the 2022 draft alone, the Eagles can turbocharge a rebuild in Green Bay. Eagles still have issues of their own, but half their draft picks to select. Jalen Hurts could set behind Rodgers and prepare to be the starter in a few years.
