| NEW YORK – Nov. 28, 2024 – The NFL announced today the pregame entertainment for Super Bowl LIX, which will take place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025 and air live on FOX. The star-studded lineup of Jon Batiste, Trombone Shorty, Lauren Daigle and Ledisi honors the legendary music scene of New Orleans and features artists who call Louisiana home.

Who Should Replace Ryan Day at Ohio State?
After Ohio State’s disappointing loss to Michigan, the question arises: who could replace Ryan Day and take the Buckeyes back to the pinnacle of college football? The Buckeyes will still make the playoffs. Outside of winning a National Championship though Day could be in trouble. He is 1-4 against Michigan. Ohio State is a powerhouse program with high expectations, and the search for the right coach to lead them into the future is paramount. Replacing Ryan Day at Ohio State is no easy task, but there are several qualified candidates who could step in and take the program to new heights.
Lane Kiffin

Lane Kiffin may not have led Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff this season, but his coaching ability cannot be overlooked. Under Kiffin, the Rebels have consistently won at least eight games per season and finished inside the Top 11 in the AP Poll in two of the last four years. At Ohio State, Kiffin would have access to far greater resources, which could allow him to reach new heights.
Matt Campbell
Matt Campbell has long been considered one of the most promising coaches in college football. His work at Iowa State has earned him widespread recognition, especially considering the challenges he faced when he took over the Cyclones program. In 2016, Iowa State finished with a dismal 3-9 record, but under Campbell’s leadership, they’ve become perennial Big 12 contenders, consistently challenging for conference championships and finishing in the AP Top 25.
Mike Vrabel
Mike Vrabel’s name is likely to come up when discussing potential replacements for Ryan Day, especially considering his strong ties to Ohio State. As a former Buckeyes linebacker and a coach in the program under Urban Meyer, Vrabel has a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed at Ohio State. After transitioning to the NFL, Vrabel found success as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, leading the team to multiple playoff appearances and earning a reputation as one of the NFL’s top coaches.

The idea of Urban Meyer returning to Ohio State might be crazy to some. Meyer’s success at Ohio State is undeniable. He led the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2014, along with three Big Ten titles, and developed numerous NFL-caliber players during his tenure. Meyer built one of the most successful programs in the country during his time in Columbus, and many fans and boosters still view him as the gold standard for Ohio State football.

The Chicago Bears are on the hunt for a new head coach. Despite having five games left, the team fired Matt Eberflus. It’s the first time the team has fired a coach mid-season. General Manager Ryan Poles and team president Kevin Warren have shown they are not afraid to take decisive action. A mix of experienced coaches and rising stars is already being considered. Let’s take a look at who could be the team’s next head coach.

He would bring leadership that the Bears need. Under his tenure with the Titans, Vrabel built a team that was known for its hard-hitting defense and disciplined play, traits the Bears need. Vrabel also has playoff success leading the Titans to the AFC Championship.
Aaron Glenn: The Rising Star
The defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions is on the watch list. Glenn has gained significant attention for his innovative defensive schemes. He has helped turn the Lions into a playoff contender, and his leadership has been crucial to the team’s success. Known for his high-energy coaching style and ability to connect with players, Glenn’s background as a former NFL corner back gives him an edge. Given the Bears’ need for defensive back improvement, Glenn could be an attractive option as a former defensive back.
Brian Flores: The Defensive Mind
Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores is another potential candidate. But his time as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins came with issues. He a young QB in Tua Tagovailoa had a fractured relationship. Caleb Williams will need somebody to develop him. Flores is widely regarded as one of the brightest defensive minds in the NFL. Despite being let go after a winning season in Miami, Flores has continued to build his reputation as a tough, no-nonsense coach who demands accountability from his players.
Bill Belichick: The Legacy Option

Although it may seem unlikely, Bill Belichick, the legendary head coach of the New England Patriots, could be a wildcard candidate. But he’s more linked to Dallas who has an established QB. While the Patriots have experienced a decline in recent years, Belichick’s unmatched resume cannot be ignored. Belichick did develop Tom Brady as a young QB. His ability to adjust to changing rosters and his focus on fundamentals have earned him respect across the league.
Ben Johnson: The Offensive Innovator
The name of Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is the hottest name in the NFL. He helped turn Jarred Goff into an MVP candidate. Johnson has worked wonders with Detroit’s offense. They are one of the best offenses in the league. Johnson’s ability to craft game plans that maximize his players could make him an intriguing choice for the Bears. The Bears have the pieces for an explosive offense.
The next head coach will need to be someone who can build on the Bears’ storied defensive tradition while also injecting new energy and ideas into an offense that has struggled for years. As the search continues, the Bears will need to carefully evaluate their options, balancing experience with fresh perspectives. The right hire could set the foundation for a successful new era in Chicago football.
Star RB Lee Beebe Jr. launches UAB to major win over Rice
Beebe Jr. was the driving force behind the Blazers’ victory, dominating the Owls from the very start. The Montgomery native delivered his best performance of the season, showcasing his exceptional skills and earning every bit of attention he’s been generating. With 16 carries, 161 rushing yards, and two touchdowns, Beebe Jr. averaged an impressive 10.1 yards per carry. His stellar performance significantly boosted his season stats and catapulted him into the conversation for conference honors. Beebe Jr.’s ability to power through the Rice defense demonstrated his physicality and playmaking ability, making him a key asset for UAB moving forward.

While Beebe Jr. stole the show, credit also goes to junior quarterback Jalen Kitna, who had one of his most solid performances of the season. Though he threw for 174 yards, Kitna’s decision-making and execution were crucial in the win. He connected on two touchdown passes and only had five incompletions throughout the game. Kitna’s growth as a quarterback was evident, as he showed poise and maturity in reading coverages and making the right decisions. His performance highlighted how important the film room has been for his development, as an inexperienced starter, and how he is steadily improving by learning from his mistakes.
Defensively, UAB finally delivered a performance that matched the expectations placed on them throughout the season. The Blazers’ defense, which had struggled at times, was outstanding in this game. The defensive front, which had been porous in previous matchups, held Rice to just 115 rushing yards on 25 carries. They also made life difficult for Rice’s quarterback, E.J. Warner, who was under constant pressure and had a rough outing. Warner finished the game with an alarming 21 incompletions and three interceptions, with several of those mistakes coming on forced throws as the Owls played catch-up for much of the game. UAB capitalized on every opportunity that came their way, forcing turnovers and staying aggressive. This was a much-needed breakout performance for a defense that had been inconsistent throughout the season.
Looking ahead to their final game of the year, the Blazers will travel to North Carolina to take on the 4-7 Charlotte 49ers. A victory would cap off a strong finish to the season, with three wins in the final five games, signaling positive momentum heading into the offseason. Such a performance could be a game-changer for the program, providing a sense of accomplishment and hope for the future. If UAB can finish the season on a high note, it would likely secure head coach Trent Dilfer’s position for another season, giving him the opportunity to build on the progress made over the course of the year. However, a loss to Charlotte could spell trouble for Dilfer’s future, potentially prompting a complete overhaul of the program both on and off the field. This last game holds significant weight in determining the direction UAB will take in the coming months.
NFL Players, Coaches and Staff Make Impact Off the Field through My Cause My Cleats
| NEW YORK – Nov. 25, 2024 – Beginning today, NFL players, coaches and staff across the league will reveal custom, specially designed cleats bringing attention to various causes and non-profit organizations they support through My Cause My Cleats. Launched in 2016, the initiative allows players to use their platforms, both on and off the field, to advocate for causes important to them while celebrating the positive impact the NFL Family makes in communities across the world. This season, more than 1,400 participants— players, coaches, Legends and staff— are highlighting relevant issues and nonprofit organizations on their cleats during games in Week 13-14 of the season.
To execute their designs in a unique way, players are collaborating with cleat manufacturers and designers to create custom-designed cleats displaying causes they care most about. This season, youth initiatives, including wellness programs and access to football camps, are the cause the most players are advocating for through My Cause My Cleats. Players, coaches and staff have also identified other issues to highlight on their cleats, including cancer awareness and prevention, social justice efforts and mental health. Several participants will also champion foster care and adoption, health and disease awareness, animal care, domestic violence, sustainability and many others. Native American Athletic Foundation Announces All-Star Football Game and Camp
| FRISCO, TEXAS — Nov. 25, 2024 — Seventy Native American athletes from across the country will be selected to participate in the 2025 Native American All-Star Football Game on January 7, 2025, at The Star in Frisco, Texas, world headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys. The game will be produced by the Native American Athletic Foundation (NAAF) in partnership with the National Football League and Nike.
From January 3-7, 2025, top Native American high school athletes from across the United States will gather at The Star for high-quality coaching, college preparation, leadership training, life skills and positive coping tools, all designed to inspire and prepare them for future success. “We are excited and honored to work with the NFL to make an impact in the lives of Native athletes,” said Michael Stopp, Executive Director, NAAF. “Our organization was established to use sports to develop the next generation of leaders in Indian Country. Essentially, all four corners of the sport are enjoying the benefits of these bowl games. While some detractors may question their importance, for many of these athletes, bowl games offer a chance to wear the jersey one last time and close out their football careers on a winning note. For those who have played the game since their youth, that still holds significant meaning.

Momentum Means More
When St. Norbert College faced off against Monmouth (IL) in the Cousin’s Lakefront Bowl, it was a tale of two teams. SNC, after a tough start to the season with three straight losses, wanted to end 2024 on a high note. The Green Knights, known for their stingy defense and punishing run game, were determined to battle it out in the trenches. On the other side, Monmouth held a significant physical advantage across the line of scrimmage on both sides.
Yet, SNC refused to back down. The Knights disrupted game plans, making life difficult for quarterback Brayden Deem. SNC’s defense applied constant pressure, forcing two interceptions. On paper, Monmouth seemed to have the upper hand, but as we know, games aren’t played on paper. On a bitterly cold day in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, St. Norbert’s game plan proved effective. Patrick Oden carried the ball 32 times for 153 yards and a touchdown, while Kyle Santos earned MVP honors with 15 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a sack.
Effort
Despite the loss, Monmouth College’s coaching staff instills a remarkable level of effort in their players. Standout defender Tevin Baker scooped up and scored on a muffed punt. As he ran, SNC attempted to tackle him, but Baker managed to stay on his feet despite a few stumbles, regaining his balance and eventually reaching the end zone. Similarly, despite being a little hobbled from injury, Jackson Bergren, a member of the Monmouth offense, spent much of the game riding the exercise bike to stay loose in the freezing temperatures. In a world where players might choose to sit out, Bergren pushed through the pain to get on the field and contribute. This level of devotion cannot be bought or sold. Head Coach Chad Braun and his staff have set a standard that the team strives to meet every fall.
Working Together
The Division 3 commissioners form a remarkably tight-knit group. While they all exhibit loyalty to their respective conferences, there is also a noticeable level of cooperation. A few key commissioners decided to collaborate on events that not only drew significant interest but also demonstrated a mutual respect and trust that is rare in sports. Brad Bankston (ODAC) and Katie Boldvich (Landmark) joined forces to bring the Chesapeake Challenge to life last season. This year, Salem, Virginia, hosted the Cape Henry and Cape Charles Bowls.
In the Cape Henry Bowl, Washington and Lee defeated Wilkes 40-21, fueled by 71 carries for 382 yards. In the nightcap, Moravian quarterback Jared Jenkins threw for 309 yards and five touchdowns, leading his team to a 35-14 win over Shenandoah. The collaborative efforts of Bankston, Boldvich, and others prove that working together without ego can elevate athletics. If only other levels of athletics would follow their lead. With similar cooperation from the MACC/Midwest, NEWMAC/CNE, and MAC/Centennial conferences, the hope remains for further football bowl games.

Without them, the connection between fans and programs would be far more limited. SIDs remain the underappreciated conduits through which crucial information flows. They embody the best qualities of college sports, ensuring that the hard work and dedication of athletes and coaches reach the public.
Inside the NBA to be Broadcasted on ESPN and ABC
Inside the NBA has long been a cornerstone of NBA coverage, captivating fans as a pregame, halftime, and post-game show. The chemistry of the dynamic and entertaining group—Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, Ernie Johnson, and Shaquille O’Neal—has made the show a fan favorite, with their candid discussions, humor, and deep basketball knowledge drawing a loyal audience. However, the future of the show became uncertain when the NBA signed an 11-year television rights extension with ESPN in 2022, but did not include TNT in the deal.
As a result, TNT would lose its NBA broadcasting rights, leading many to worry that Inside the NBA would end after the 2024-2025 season, leaving fans without their beloved pregame and post-game analysis. Fortunately, a new agreement was reached that guarantees the continuation of Inside the NBA. ESPN and TNT came together to form a partnership that allows the show to remain on air. Under the terms of the deal, TNT will continue to produce Inside the NBA, but it will now be broadcast on ESPN and ABC channels during NBA game coverage.

Despite the change in networks, Barkley, Shaq, Ernie, and Kenny will remain in their familiar Atlanta-based studio, delivering the same pregame, halftime, and post-game analysis that fans have come to love. ESPN already airs NBA Countdown, but the two shows will now run concurrently, providing fans with more basketball coverage and analysis than ever before. While it may seem that ESPN is the primary beneficiary of this agreement, TNT has also secured valuable broadcasting rights, including 13 Big 12 football games and 15 college basketball games, which would otherwise have been shown on ESPN.
This move is part of a broader trend of collaboration between the two media giants. For example, in May 2023, ESPN and TNT agreed to a deal that will see two College Football Playoff games aired on TNT each year, but still featuring ESPN’s announcers and production. Television deals in the modern sports landscape have become increasingly complex, with games spread across a growing number of platforms, forcing fans to subscribe to multiple streaming services to keep up with their favorite teams.
However, the deal between ESPN and TNT stands out as a rare win for fans, as it ensures that Inside the NBA—one of the most beloved sports pregame shows on television—will continue to bring joy to its audience for the foreseeable future. While both networks are set to benefit financially from the agreement, the true winners are the fans, who get to keep enjoying the unique chemistry and expert analysis of Barkley, Smith, O’Neal, and Johnson. Inside the NBA will remain on TNT throughout the 2024-2025 NBA season before officially transitioning to ESPN for the 2025-2026 season.
Can Trent Dilfer Turn Around UAB Next Season?
Away from home and facing off against a key conference rival, the UAB Blazers suffered another disheartening loss to the Memphis Tigers. As the season continues to spiral downward with a series of costly errors, head coach Trent Dilfer has made it abundantly clear that the season has effectively come to an end. At this point, there is little left to do but reach the finish line, whether that comes with a victory or another defeat. The Blazers’ performance has been a stark reminder of the challenges they’ve faced this year, and the road ahead looks like a mere formality in what has become a forgettable season.

With the season winding down, it’s expected that junior Jalen Kitna will continue to start at quarterback, as there is no reason to rush the recovery of UAB’s official starter, Jacob Zeno, who is still recovering from injury. Kitna’s performance against Memphis showed flashes of potential, though it was clear that he still has much to learn. He passed for 253 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. His mistakes were a result of poor decision-making both in the pocket and while scrambling, an area he will need to improve on if he is to become the leader this team needs in the future. There is definitely promise in the former Florida Gator, but his development will take time, and he will need the rest of the season to grow, both on the field and off.
Despite the lopsided 35-point loss, the receivers put together an impressive performance. Freshman standout Corri Milliner continued to shine, hauling in three receptions for 74 yards. Behind him, a number of other receivers also ran crisp routes, caught passes at a high rate, and made plays when needed. Their efforts were admirable, especially considering the struggles of the rest of the offense. The Blazers’ wideouts have shown they can perform at a high level, even if the team’s overall offensive performance didn’t reflect that on the scoreboard.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Blazers struggles were painfully evident. There seems to be no clear starting point for what needs to be fixed. The defensive line failed to contain Memphis’ running back, Mario Anderson Jr., allowing him to rack up 138 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, the defensive backs were often caught flat-footed, unable to prevent the Tigers’ passing attack from marching up and down the field. They gave up nearly 300 receiving yards and four touchdowns to what is likely the best offense in the American Athletic Conference. The defensive unit as a whole has significant work to do, and with only a few games left in the season, it’s unclear if they can make any meaningful progress before the end of the year.
The Blazers ended the season on positive note against the Rice Owls. The victory is a much-needed morale booster for Dilfer and his players. It could provide a sense of accomplishment and help build some momentum for the offseason, despite the team’s disappointing record.
