Oregon’s Thieneman makes Cheez-It Crunch Time Play of the Week

DALLAS (FWAA) – Oregon is the winner of the Cheez-It Crunch Time Play of the Week for Week 5 as safety Dillon Thieneman ended a 30-24 overtime win at Penn State with a leaping interception, as selected by the All-America Commitee of the Football Writers Association of America.

After giving up a 17-3 fourth-quarter lead, the 6th-ranked Ducks and 3rd-ranked Nittany Lions headed to overtime before the whiteout crowd in Happy Valley.

Then after trading touchdowns on the first extra possession, Oregon took the 30-24 lead when Gary Bryant Jr., caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Donte Moore, his third scoring pass of the night.

On the first play of Penn State’s ensuing possession, Thieneman jumped in front of a Drew Allar pass intended for tight end Luke Reynolds that stunned and silenced the record crowd of 111,015 when it ended the game.

The 2025 season marks the first year the FWAA has presented the award under its new name, the Cheez-It Crunch Time Play of the Week, spotlighting the single most decisive play from the weekend’s games. Each winning team receives a custom Cheez-It care package delivered to its campus.
