Free Agent QB Aaron Rodgers Visits Steelers

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently visited the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent, marking the first time in his career that he’s spent time with the team. Despite reports that Rodgers was at the Steelers’ facility for several hours, CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones stated that no decisions or agreements were made during the visit. Rodgers, who had a challenging season with the New York Jets, is keeping his options open.

In 2024, he finished with 3,897 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Steelers currently have quarterbacks Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on their roster, while Russell Wilson, another free agent quarterback, is coming off a playoff berth with the Denver Broncos. Rodgers’ visit to Pittsburgh adds a new layer to his free agency journey, especially as the New York Giants are also reportedly interested in bringing a veteran quarterback onto their roster.

The Minnesota Vikings, who were initially seen as a potential landing spot for Rodgers, have now committed to quarterback J.J. McCarthy, further narrowing his options. The news of Rodgers’ visit initially flew under the radar until Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette broke the story.  This has raised questions about who leaked the information from the Steelers, sparking speculation that this could be a test by Rodgers to gauge whether the Steelers have any leaks within their organization—a concern he expressed during his time with the Jets.

Regardless of how the story got out, it’s likely that the visit would have made headlines due to the league’s reporting requirements. Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, is coming off a tough 2024 season, ranking in the top 10 for both passing yards and touchdowns. However, it was one of the worst seasons of his career in terms of wins and losses, as the Jets finished 5-12. This led to significant changes within the organization, including the decision not to bring Rodgers back for another year. He officially became a free agent on March 12.
