ESPN’s SportsCenter was live at LSU on Thursday, setting the stage for an exciting SEC showdown between No. 7 LSU and No. 13 Oklahoma. Ahead of the highly anticipated game, LSU Guards Aneesah Morrow and Flau’Jae Johnson sat down for an interview with Christine Williamson, where they discussed their mindset heading into the contest. “We know what we are capable of,” Morrow said confidently. “We have to stay disciplined and execute our offense.” The players’ focus on discipline and execution would prove pivotal as LSU came out on top with a thrilling 107-100 victory.

The game, which was intense from start to finish, was marked by drama, including two player ejections, an intentional foul call, and technical fouls assessed to both head coaches, Jennie Baranczyk of Oklahoma and LSU’s Kim Mulkey. Despite the heated moments, LSU’s offensive firepower was too much for the Sooners to overcome. The Tigers relied on a stellar performance from their star trio—Mikaylah Williams, Flau’Jae Johnson, and Aneesah Morrow—who combined for an impressive 83 points to keep Oklahoma at bay.
Oklahoma’s Payton Verhulst put on a standout performance for the Sooners, finishing with a team-high 26 points. Reagan Beers also contributed significantly, recording 20 points and 7 rebounds in the losing effort. However, despite their best efforts, Oklahoma couldn’t match LSU’s offensive explosion. The 107 points scored by LSU marked a new milestone in program history, as it set a new record for the most points ever scored in an SEC game by the Tigers, surpassing the previous record of 106 points scored against Florida last season.

Thursday’s game also marked only the fourth time in LSU’s history that both teams managed to reach the 100-point mark. Flau’Jae Johnson, who continues to be a standout for LSU, is currently the Tigers’ leading scorer, averaging 19.7 points per game, which ranks fifth in the SEC. Her consistent scoring has been a key factor in LSU’s success this season, with Johnson having scored in double figures in an impressive 31 consecutive games. Alongside her, Aneesah Morrow has been dominant, averaging 18.5 points per game (6th in SEC) and leading the nation in rebounds with 14.0 rebounds per game.
Morrow has also set a remarkable record with 19 double doubles so far this season, showcasing her ability to contribute across the board. As LSU continues to thrive, it’s clear that their combination of offensive firepower and relentless defense makes them a formidable force in the SEC. With the talent and mindset, they displayed in Thursday’s victory, the Tigers are a team to watch as the season progresses.
