James Cook, Maxx Crosby & Ka’imi Fairbairn Named Week 2 AFC Players of the Week

NEW YORK — Sept. 18, 2024 — Buffalo Bills running back James Cook, Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby and Houston Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for Week 2 (September 12, 15-16).

OFFENSE: RB JAMES COOK, BUFFALO BILLS

  • Cook scored three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) and totaled 95 scrimmage yards (78 rushing, 17 receiving), helping Buffalo defeat Miami, 31-10. Cook’s 49-yard rushing touchdown is the longest in the NFL this season.
  • This is the second-career Offensive Player of the Week Award for Cook, also earning the honor in Week 15 of the 2023 season.
  • Cook becomes the third Buffalo running back to win Offensive Player of the Week multiple times, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas (four times) and Greg Bell (twice).

DEFENSE: DE MAXX CROSBY, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

  • Crosby recorded six tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and a pass defensed in Las Vegas’ 26-23 victory at Baltimore, as the Raiders overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit. His four tackles for loss are the most in a single game among AFC players this season.
  • This is the fifth-career Defensive Player of the Week Award for Crosby, the most in franchise history.
    • 2019: Week 11
    • 2021: Weeks 1, 18
    • 2023: Week 5
    • 2024: Week 2
  • Including his Special Teams Player of the Week award in Week 2 of the 2020 season, Crosby is now tied with kicker Daniel Carlson (six-time winner) for the third-most Player of the Week awards in franchise history, trailing only kicker Sebastian Janikowski (seven) and Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Tim Brown (seven).

SPECIAL TEAMS: K KA’IMI FAIRBAIRN, HOUSTON TEXANS

  • Fairbairn converted all four of his field goal attempts in the Texan’s 19-13 victory over the Bears on Sunday Night Football, including three from over 50 yards, becoming the first player all-time with multiple career games of three-or-more 50-yard field goals made.
  • This is the third-career Special Teams Player of the Week Award for Fairbairn, tying Kris Brown for the most-ever by a Houston kicker.
    • 2018: Week 15
    • 2023: Week 15
    • 2024: Week 2
  • Fairbairn becomes the first former UCLA kicker to win Special Teams Player of the Week three times since 2000.
