All charges against Scottie Scheffler, the world’s leading golfer, have been dismissed. Scott Alexander Scheffler, an American professional golfer competing on the PGA Tour, currently holds the esteemed position of world number one. Achieving this rank in March 2022, he has maintained it for over 80 consecutive weeks.
At 27 years old, Scheffler faced four charges, including felony assault, following an encounter with a Louisville Metro Police Department officer on May 17. The incident occurred during the PGA Tour at Valhalla Golf Club as Scheffler was endeavoring to arrive early for his tee time. A bus accident had caused a delay in traffic, resulting in the tragic loss of a security guard’s life. Despite the disruption, players were permitted to proceed.

Jefferson County attorney Mike O’Connell took action by filing a motion to dismiss the charges, which was promptly accepted by the judge. O’Connell asserted that Scheffler’s characterization of the event as a “big misunderstanding” was supported by evidence.
“The evidence we examined indicates that Detective Gillis was primarily concerned with public safety at the scene. However, the actions of Mr. Scheffler and the circumstances surrounding their interaction during this misunderstanding do not meet the criteria for any criminal offenses,” O’Connell stated.
