Meet Alex Surat, Our ASU/Pac-12 Intern

  1. Why are you so interested in sports journalism?

Sports have been a huge thing growing up in my life. My whole family was into sports, and I knew I would always have an affiliation with sports. Growing up I was never good at math or science, but I was always good at writing. I ended up going down the STEM path of college because of a scholarship I received when I was in high school, only to end up changing my major towards Media of Arts and Sciences. This pathway gave me the option to be able to still pursue the idea that I had when I was younger, becoming a sports journalist.

2. What is your favorite sport and why?

My favorite Sport is basketball. Growing up my whole family played basketball. My father, my mother, my two older brothers and older sister. We would always watch the Los Angeles Lakers play as a family at home and would play at the park as a family whenever we were all free. I went on to play all 4 years in high school as the starting point guard for the varsity team and would eventually have some offers to play in college. Even though my basketball career is over I still play recreationally and will always love the game of basketball.

3. What is your favorite sports moment?

My favorite sports moment would have to be when the underdogs come out victorious. I am a sucker for the underdog story of that team or player that everyone is counting out or believe that they won’t get anywhere, only to shock the world because of their drive and determination. Growing up I was always seen as the underdog because of my height and people that were close to me that didn’t believe in me.

4. What is your favorite genre of music?

My favorite genre of music is broad! I like all kinds of music to be honest and it is hard for me to state which is my favorite. As far as what I am listening too right now would be hip-hop, alternative, Christian, lo-fi, and more!

5. What are your favorite hobbies?

My favorite hobbies right now would be working out, playing basketball, discovering and listening to new music, making coffee 24/7, and recently I started reading my Bible more.

6. How can people follow you on social media?
