Syracuse (12-16, 6-11) defeated NC State (11-17, 4-13) 74-60. The Wolfpack entered the game desperate for a win, while Syracuse had a chance to get closer to clinching a spot in the conference tournament. For one of the rare times this season, the Orange dominated from start to finish. Syracuse has been enduring one of the worst seasons in program history. The half-filled stadium reflected the struggles of the team.

Even the student section was barely 20% full. The JMA Dome no longer carries the same energy it once did. The highlight of the night was a section of fans dressed in banana costumes—members of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity who at least brought some life to the student section. The atmosphere no longer feels like a hostile road environment for visiting teams, and NC State failed to capitalize on the road, allowing Syracuse to run away with the game.

The Orange played with a sense of urgency at home, jumping out to a strong lead and never looking back. They were led by veterans JJ Starling, Jyrare Davis, and Eddie Lampkin, the only three players to reach double digits. Head coach Adrian Autry leaned heavily on his starting lineup, with only five players logging over 20 minutes. Known for sticking with hot lineups, Autry’s decision to rely on his experienced players was unsurprising given the importance of the game for ACC tournament implications.

Next Up:

With matchups against Virginia and Virginia Tech, the Orange have an opportunity to climb a few spots in the ACC standings. However, their primary focus should be on securing a spot in the ACC tournament before worrying about seeding. The season will close with a road trip to SMU. The final three games should be enough for the Orange to clinch a spot in the conference tournament.

If Syracuse Makes the Conference Tournament, What Are Their Chances?

The Orange have struggled throughout the season. Heading into the conference tournament, they will be without five-star recruit Donnie Freeman, and the timeline for first-year guard Elijah Moore’s return is uncertain. Injuries aren’t the primary issue—Syracuse simply has not been a good team. They lack cohesion and struggle in several areas: free-throw shooting, offensive consistency, three-point shooting, transition defense, and more. There are many reasons why Syracuse has only won 12 games this season.

Given their poor form, I don’t believe Syracuse has much of a chance to make a run in the conference tournament. They’ve won only two road games, and it’s doubtful many Orange fans will make the trip to North Carolina for the tournament. The most likely outcome is that Syracuse will lose in the first round of the ACC tournament, which could put head coach Adrian Autry’s job in jeopardy.

There has been growing discussion at the NFL Scouting Combine about the possibility of banning the quarterback sneak play popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles, known as the “tush-push” or “Brotherly Shove.” This play involves two players standing behind the quarterback and pushing him forward to gain yards in short-yardage situations. The NFL received a proposal to ban the play from a team that was not initially identified, but NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero later reported that the Green Bay Packers had proposed the idea.

Brian Gutekunst, the Packers’ general manager, said on Tuesday that while there haven’t been many discussions about the proposal, he is aware of it. Although many teams do not use this evolved form of the quarterback sneak, it has proven highly effective for the Eagles. In fact, Jalen Hurts tied for fifth in the league with 14 rushing touchdowns in 2024, further highlighting the play’s success. However, justifying the potential ban of the “tush push” could prove challenging.

NFL EVP of Football Operations Troy Vincent stated that there were no reported injuries resulting from the play during the 2024 season, a conclusion based on data gathered after the Health and Safety Committee expressed concerns over the play’s safety. This is not the first time the “Brotherly Shove” has been discussed within the NFL’s Competition Committee and its annual consideration of proposals.

Three years ago, when the “hip-drop” tackle—now banned as of last season—was proposed, the tush push was brought up in the same conversation. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni weighed in on the recent debate, calling the narrative around the quarterback sneak unfair and insulting. He argued that the play’s success for the Eagles shouldn’t be viewed as automatic, and he emphasized that it’s the result of extensive practice, from the snap to the execution of the entire play.

Sirianni stressed the hard work his team puts in to perfect it, rather than how it’s often portrayed as a simple or automatic play. In addition to Sirianni’s comments, multiple NFL coaches have voiced their opinions on the “Brotherly Shove.” Notably, Atlanta Falcons’ Raheem Morris and Buffalo Bills’ Sean McDermott have both expressed concerns about the play’s potential safety risks and indicated they would support a ban. The Tennessee Titans have a lot of options. Go for a QB or select one of two of the best players in Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter. But we believe the Titans will turn their attention to defense. Abdul Carter jumped off the screen in every game this season. I do not believe the QB’s are generational talents as this offensive roster is lacking. The standout edge rusher from Penn State, would bring an elite ability to disrupt quarterbacks.

Pick 2: Cleveland Browns – Cam Ward, Quarterback, Miami

The Browns have talent on both sides of the ball. With a dismal 2024 campaign behind them, the Cleveland Browns seek to return to the playoffs like in 2023. Joe Flacco gave them solid QB play. The athletic senior quarterback could open the offense. He has the arm strength to throw in the winter weather and mobility could be a perfect fit for the Browns.

Pick 3: New York Giants – Shedeur Sanders, Quarterback, Colorado

Sanders has the star power for New York. He can handle the immense pressure of being the face of one of the NFL’s most storied franchises being Dioen Sander son. The QB is experienced with running a pro-style system. Sanders is poised in the pocket and has the skills for head coach Brian Daboll.

Pick 4: New England Patriots – Will Campbell, Offensive Tackle, LSU

The Patriots have their QB of the future! They now need to protect them. Offensive tackle Will Campbell from LSU is the solution. He has great technique, strength, and is a plug-and-play starter from day one. He is a decade-long starter at the tackle position for Drake Maye.

Pick 5: Jacksonville Jaguars – Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado

Hunter is the best athlete in the draft. He’s a two-way super star. He wants to play both ways but most likely he’ll play DB and sparingly at wide receiver. On offense, he offers an explosive weapon to help quarterback Trevor Lawrence continue to grow. This would be similar to his college coach Deion Sanders. He could be a decoy to throw off defenses.

The Kansas City Chiefs were established in 1959 as a charter member of the American Football League. They were originally founded as the Dallas Texans by AFL founder Lamar Hunt. Since then, the Chiefs have become an iconic team in the NFL. As of 2024, the team’s value has skyrocketed to over US$4.85 billion. During it’s history they have had some of the best coaches and players with many going into the Hall of Fame. Following the death of Lamar Hunt in 2006, ownership of the team passed to his wife and their children. After Norma’s passing in 2023, the Hunt children inherited the team. Since then they have been playoff contenders and now Super Bowl contenders during the last decade. But things are on shaky grounds in Kansas City Missouri.

The lease ends in 2031. If the Chiefs do follow through with the relocation, it is anticipated that by the time November rolls around, ground will likely have been broken on a new stadium in Kansas.

This year, the NHL took a fresh approach to the All-Star break by replacing the typical game with a tournament featuring four countries: the USA, Canada, Finland, and Sweden. The tournament, which ran from February 12th to 20th, had a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the championship. The first four games were held in Montreal, while the final three, including the championship, took place in Boston. From the start, the intensity of the tournament was evident, with players showing passion and pride as they represented their countries.

The opening game between Canada and Sweden went into overtime, setting the tone for the competition. Canada won 4-3. In their opening game, the USA defeated Finland 6-1, setting up an eagerly awaited matchup with Canada. The game was held in Canada, and tensions ran high due to political differences between the two countries. Fans in the stands booed during the U.S. national anthem, prompting Team USA to respond by initiating three fights within the first nine seconds of the game, orchestrated through group chats before the match.

The fights, led by the Tkachuk brothers and JT Miller, were seen as a reaction to the anthem protest. This tournament clearly wasn’t your typical All-Star event. Players weren’t just going through the motions as in other leagues’ All-Star games—they played with pride and intensity. In the Canada-USA game, Canada scored early, but the U.S. responded with three straight goals to win 3-1, securing a spot in the championship. Canada then defeated Finland 5-3 to set up a rematch with the U.S.

The championship game drew significant attention, with the U.S. team rallying behind the “Miracle on Ice” spirit. The game became the most-watched non-NFL event on ESPN+, with about 16 million viewers across North America. In a thrilling overtime finish, Canada won the championship 3-2. While the U.S. came up short, the tournament was a massive win for the sport of hockey, drawing in new viewers and boosting interest in international hockey.

The success of the event paved the way for more international competitions, including NHL participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics and the return of the World Cup of Hockey in 2028. With the Kansas City Chiefs chasing a three-peat—something that hasn’t been done since the mid-1960s—and the Philadelphia Eagles aiming for their second championship win, expectations were high, especially after Saquon Barkley was introduced to the team before this season. Not only did the Eagles thwart the Chiefs’ bid for a historic three-peat, but they also set several records of their own in the process.

Rushing Yards:

The Eagles didn’t just break one rushing yards record—they shattered two, thanks to QB Jalen Hurts and RB Saquon Barkley. Hurts initially set the quarterback rushing yards record in Super Bowl LVII with 70 yards but broke his own record in this year’s Super Bowl with 72 rushing yards. Additionally, Saquon Barkley set the combined regular season and playoffs rushing yards record. While Barkley didn’t post huge numbers in the first half (12 carries for 31 yards), his performance in the second half allowed him to surpass Terrell Davis’ previous record, finishing his first season with the Eagles with a total of 2,504 rushing yards.

Although the record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback wasn’t broken, Jalen Hurts did tie the record with three rushing touchdowns, one of which was made possible by the iconic “brotherly shove” (also known as the “tush push”). Hurts’ performance was particularly notable for his physicality and versatility, playing under the intense pressure of the Super Bowl against a Chiefs team with a top-10 run defense.

NFL Hosts Ninth Annual Women’s Forum

NEW YORK – Feb. 19, 2025 – The National Football League (NFL) will host its ninth annual NFL Women’s Forum presented by Amazon Web Services (AWS) on February 26 in Indianapolis during the 2025 NFL Combine as part of its ongoing, league-wide commitment to inclusion. The program will connect 40 women with leaders in professional football to provide insight and networking opportunities for their careers in the areas of scouting, data & analytics, coaching and football operations.

Since its 2017 inception, 310 participants have gone through the Forum, with over 250 opportunities emerging for women in all levels of football. 29 clubs have hired past Women’s Forum participants, and all 32 clubs engaged in the Forum in some capacity last year. During the 2024-25 season, the NFL had 15 full-time women coaches – a league record and most for any male professional sports league in the world.

Over the Women’s Forum nine-year history, its past participants have gone on to become the first female positional coach in college football history (Heather Marini), the NFL’s first black female scout (Salli Clavelle) and coach (Jennifer King), a Super Bowl winning coach (Autumn Lockwood) and one of few Latina coaches, (Isabel Diaz).
