D’Angelo Russell Brings NBA Star Power with Camp DLo

D’Angelo Russell was born and raised in Louisville. He’s a well-established NBA veteran and once again giving back to his community through Camp DLo. The camp is a multi-day youth basketball camp focused on skill development, mentorship, and life lessons on and off the court. The 2025 edition of the camp is scheduled for June 24–27 at MidAmerica Sports Center in Louisville, Kentucky. He puts on the camp every year so if you miss it in 2025 make sure to stay up to date for future events.

From Columbus to the NBA

Russell’s basketball journey began at Ohio State University. He quickly emerged as one of the nation’s top freshmen. During his freshmen year he led all freshmen in scoring and earned First-Team All-American and Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors. He was one and done in school. The guard was then selected second overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Russell has played for the Brooklyn Nets, where he became an NBA All-Star in 2019, and then the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves. He returned to LA in 2023.

He was a part of the inaugural NBA Cup and helped the Lakers reach the Western Conference Finals. He then was traded back to the Brooklyn Nets in December 2024. Other career notes for Russell have over 10,000 career points, NBA All-Rookie Second Team, and Lakers franchise record for three-pointers in a season.

Camp DLo targets boys and girls in grades 3–12, with a focus on basketball fundamentals, life skills, and personal development. The experience is more than just drills and games; it’s an opportunity for young athletes to engage directly with Russell and other NBA players. Camp DLo continues to stand as one of Louisville’s premier youth basketball experiences, offering young athletes a chance to learn, grow, and be inspired by one of the city’s finest basketball exports.

Community Impact

Dlo week is a week-long community events outside of just the basketball camp. Russell started off the week running with a Louisville based run club called the Pit Stop Runners. He gave away water bottles, shirts, motivational wrist bands, energy drinks, and healthy snacks. Camp DLo is a platform to give back to the city that raised him. The camp, provides a rare chance for local youth to connect with professional athletes in a meaningful, mentorship-driven environment.

At the end of the camp there will be a celebrity basketball game with former Louisville Cardinals players and local musicians. To close out the week he will have DLo day. This day will include local vendors and community members. Families interested in Camp DLo can register online through the official Camp DLo website or the MidAmerica Sports Center website. Early registration is encouraged, as the camp fills quickly each year.
