Diana Taurasi, one of the greatest players in the history of women’s basketball, has left an indelible mark on both the collegiate and professional levels. A star at the University of Connecticut (UConn), Taurasi garnered numerous accolades during her time with the Huskies, including two Naismith College Player of the Year awards (2003 and 2004), the 2003 Wade Trophy, the 2003 and 2004 Honda Sports Award, and the 2003 Associated Press Player of the Year award.
Her impact at UConn went beyond individual achievements, as she became a beloved figure in the state of Connecticut. State Senator Thomas Gaffey even nominated her to join Prudence Crandall as one of the state’s heroines. A 10-time WNBA All-Star and 14-time All-WNBA selection, including 10 first-team honors, Taurasi’s consistent excellence earned her a place among the greatest players in WNBA history. In 2011, she was named one of the WNBA’s Top 15 Players of All Time by fan vote. She was also honored on the WNBA’s 20th and 25th anniversary teams, being named to the Top 20@20 in 2016 and The W25 in 2021. That same year, fans selected her as the greatest player in league history.
