The Kansas City Chiefs were established in 1959 as a charter member of the American Football League. They were originally founded as the Dallas Texans by AFL founder Lamar Hunt. In 1963, the team made the bold decision to relocate to Kansas City and adopt the name we know today as the Kansas City Chiefs. But now they may move to a different Kansas City. The franchise eventually joined the National Football League in 1970 as a result of the AFL-NFL merger.

Since then, the Chiefs have become an iconic team in the NFL. As of 2024, the team’s value has skyrocketed to over US$4.85 billion. During it’s history they have had some of the best coaches and players with many going into the Hall of Fame. Following the death of Lamar Hunt in 2006, ownership of the team passed to his wife and their children. After Norma’s passing in 2023, the Hunt children inherited the team. Since then they have been playoff contenders and now Super Bowl contenders during the last decade. But things are on shaky grounds in Kansas City Missouri.

Potential Move to Kansas: A New Chapter for the Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly leaning toward relocating to Kansas City, Kansas. This decision is steadily gaining momentum. The Chiefs don’t own the rights to Arrow Head Stadium where they play. Teams are building new stadiums and with the rights to the stadium and upgrades the team wants, the team could be on the move. The lease ends in 2031. If the Chiefs do follow through with the relocation, it is anticipated that by the time November rolls around, ground will likely have been broken on a new stadium in Kansas.

This move could bring with it fresh opportunities for the franchise and its players. But the fan base would be crushed. They have one of the most passionate fan bases in the league.  The move would allow the Chiefs to tap into new resources and continue building on their legacy. It would also provide new opportunities for local businesses, the community, and fans who have followed the team for decades.
