Robinson is one of 18 men selected to go to the Games this year. He is also the first FC Cincinnati player to compete in the Olympics. The U.S. men’s team has been absent from the Olympics for nearly two decades, failing to qualify in 2012, 2016, and 2020. Their last participation in 2008 saw them finish ninth overall in the tournament.
Their first match in the upcoming Olympics will take place on July 24 against France, the host team that claimed its second FIFA World Cup in 2018 along with two European Championships. Following this game, the U.S. will face New Zealand on July 27, followed by a match against Guinea on July 30.
This accolade follows Robinson’s recent selection to the 2024 MLS All-Star Game roster. It underscores his stellar season and rising prominence in Major League Soccer. Robinson’s journey to national recognition began with FC Boston Bolts before an impact in college soccer with the Syracuse Orange. Following standout performances at Syracuse, Robinson was drafted second overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Atlanta United. He gained valuable experience on loan with the Charleston Battery in 2017 and Atlanta United 2 in 2018. By the 2019 season, Robinson had cemented his place in Atlanta United’s starting lineup under head coach Frank de Boer.
His consistent displays caught the eye of national team selectors, leading to his senior debut for the United States in September 2019. Robinson’s impact on the international stage was evident during the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July 2021.
