Redick has showcased his basketball knowledge through his “The Old Man and the Three” podcast and work at ESPN. His recent “Mind the Game” podcast with LeBron James started the Laker rumors. Although there was speculation that he might pursue other career paths, Redick is committed to stepping into this high-profile coaching role.
This appointment marks Redick’s first foray into coaching, placing him under significant scrutiny as he adapts to his new responsibilities. The Lakers, known for their high expectations and rich legacy, will be a unique challenge for the rookie coach. Redick will need to leverage his extensive knowledge of the modern NBA game to guide the Lakers to success. His immediate focus will be on maximizing the potential of a star-studded roster that includes LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Redick’s basketball journey began at Duke University, where he earned numerous accolades and left a lasting legacy. Drafted 11th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2006 NBA Draft, he enjoyed a 15-season NBA career. He played in 940 games and averaged 12.8 points, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game across six teams.

Redick set multiple records at Duke and remains the all-time leading scorer for the Blue Devils. He holds several NCAA and ACC records, including the most points in a single season and the highest free throw percentage. He’s one of the 3 point shooters in NBA history. Redick’s on-court expertise and deep understanding of the game will be critical as he transitions from player to head coach, aiming to lead the Lakers to new heights and uphold the franchise’s tradition of excellence.
