The Colorado Buffaloes’ 2024 defensive line corps is filled with fresh faces. Coach Prime made a point to bolster the defensive trenches. Coming out of Hornell High School in New York in 2019, Buell originally committed to play for Rutgers. Rutgers never let Buell to see the field in his time with the team. He made the tough choice to transfer to Northwestern Mississippi Community College before playing in the MAC.

After two seasons with the Ohio Bobcats, defensive lineman Rayyan Buell is transferring from the MAC to the Big 12. He will be joining the Colorado Buffaloes. Buell, standing at 6’3” and weighing 277 lbs, is a senior hailing from Hornell, New York. Buell had a standout season with the 10-3 Bobcats in 2023, recording 4.5 sacks and 30 total tackles. Notably, he contributed three tackles and one sack in a decisive 27-10 victory over the Long Island Sharks on Sept. 2. Buell is your proto-typical pass rusher.

He also excelled in a two-game stretch against conference rivals Kent State and Northern Illinois in October, tallying 11 total tackles and one sack across both games. In five appearances in 2022, Buell registered nine total tackles, two sacks, and one pass defensed. Joining a cohort of recent defensive line transfers to the Buffaloes, including Samuel Okunlola from Pittsburgh, Quency Wiggins from LSU, and BJ Green from Arizona State, Buell adds depth to Colorado’s defensive lineup.

The Buffaloes’ defensive line is under the tutelage of coaches Damione Lewis and NFL Hall-of-Famer Warren Sapp, both of whom joined this spring as part of a revamped defensive staff led by new coordinator Rob Livingston. Buell aims to contribute immediately to the Buffaloes, bolstering what promises to be a formidable position group. His consistent knack for sacking quarterbacks will be a valuable asset to Colorado, who totaled 28 sacks last season.
