Freshman cornerback RJ Johnson, hailing from Locust Grove, Georgia, is making a move from the Arkansas Razorbacks to the Colorado Buffaloes after redshirting for one season at Arkansas. He will have four years of eligibility remaining. Johnson’s lone appearance for Arkansas came against Western Carolina on Sept. 2, where he did not register any statistics, as per Arkansas’ bio page on Johnson.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 180 pounds, Johnson was rated as a consensus three-star prospect out of high school. He showcased versatility at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, GA, playing on both sides of the ball. According to Arkansas’ bio page, Johnson compiled 56 total tackles, including one tackle for loss, in his senior season.

He made an impact on defense with two interceptions, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery, while also contributing on offense with 32 receptions for 486 yards and five touchdowns. As reported by the Daily Camera’s Brian Howell, Johnson becomes the third player transferring to Colorado in the spring portal window from Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy. He joins former teammates Brandon and Colton Hood, along with Zack Owens.
Brandon, a running back of the class of 2024, Colton, a cornerback transfer from Auburn, and Owens, an offensive line transfer from Clemson. The additions of Colton and Johnson inject youth into a Colorado secondary that witnessed freshmen cornerbacks Adam Hopkins, Omarion Cooper, and five-star Cormani McClain enter the transfer portal this spring. They will bolster a position group featuring senior Travis Jay and junior standout Travis Hunter.
