Seton Hall Losing Key Players as Transfer Cycle Begins

Now that the season has concluded for the Seton Hall Pirates, attention turns to what lies ahead for the team next season. Despite clinching the NIT championship, they face significant challenges to secure a spot in the NCAA tournament after being denied the opportunity this year. Firstly, the Pirates must address significant losses from their roster for the upcoming season.

Two pivotal players have already entered the transfer portal, seeking either increased playing time or better Name, Image, and Likeness opportunities. Foremost among these departures is Dre Davis. Davis played a crucial role in the Pirates’ success last season, experiencing a breakout year after entering the starting lineup. Averaging 15 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 49.2% from the field, his absence will undoubtedly be felt, necessitating a search for production to fill his shoes in the starting lineup.

Another notable departure is Elijah Hutchins-Everett. Despite joining the team from Austin Peay via the transfer portal, Hutchins-Everett struggled to secure consistent minutes and failed to crack the starting lineup due to the emergence of Jaden Bediako. Consequently, he averaged just 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, shooting 48.6% from the field. Hutchins-Everett aims to find a more prominent role at his next destination to continue his development as a player.

While the Pirates have yet to announce replacements for the departing players, they have initiated the search for potential recruits. One standout candidate is freshman guard Scotty Middleton, who was previously considered a potential NBA draft prospect. Middleton, a four-star recruit according to 247 Sports, had Seton Hall among his potential destinations before ultimately choosing the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The upcoming off-season promises intrigue as the Pirates navigate various factors. The impact of NIL, in shaping their roster and plans with impact a team who believe they should’ve made March Madness. Fans hope for a successful tournament bid under the leadership of Shaheen Holloway, signaling continued growth and promise for Seton Hall in NCAA Men’s Basketball.
