The Ohio State Buckeyes were swept by the Georgetown Hoyas in a three-game series over the weekend of Mar. 22-24 at Nick Swisher Field in Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
Game 1: Georgetown 5, Ohio State 1

The game started with the Hoyas taking an early lead in the top of the first inning. First baseman Christian Ficca hit a two-run home run off Ohio State’s starting pitcher Landon Beidelscheis. In the bottom of the third inning, Ohio State’s sophomore infielder Henry Kaczmar started with an infield single. However, their scoring opportunity was cut short as Hoya pitcher Marcello Mastroianni caught Kaczmar stealing second, struck out catcher Matthew Graveline, and forced junior infielder Tyler Pettorini to hit a fly out.
The game remained close until the seventh inning when Hoya midfielder Blake Schaaf hit a single to center field. This allowed third baseman Joe Hollerbach to advance to third base and outfielder Derek Smith to score, increasing the Hoyas’ lead. Shortly after, Hoya outfielder Jake Hyde hit a double, bringing home Schaaf and Hollerbach and extending the Hoyas’ lead to four runs. Ohio State made a pitching change at the beginning of the eighth inning, bringing in freshman Chase Herrell for freshman Zach Brown, hoping to limit Georgetown’s scoring and mount a comeback.

The Buckeyes took an early lead in this game, securing two runs in the bottom of the first off of a Pettorini single and an error by first baseman Owen Carapellotti. Freshman outfielder CJ Richard was also able to reach home on a fielder’s choice.Nonetheless, the Hoyas were able to get on the board in the top of the third inning after a Carapellotti single, sending first baseman Christian Ficca to second and midfielder Josh Rolling home, making the score of the game 2-1 Ohio State at the top of the third.
The Buckeyes were able to rally back in the fifth with two runs of their own off an outfielder Trey Lipsey single to center field. However, Ohio State could not score for the rest of the inning. Hoya pitcher Jack Volo threw a wild pitch in the sixth inning, allowing infielder Joseph Mershon to be driven in for a score, making the score of the game six to five at the end of six.However, that is where the Ohio State scoring stopped for the remainder of the game.

Ohio State was able to strike first in this game, scoring off a designated hitter Nick Giamarusti hit into a double play, sending junior outfielder Josh Stevenson home in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore center Matthew Graveline singled to the third baseman, and an error from the Hoyas advanced Graveline and allowed sophomore infielder Henry Kaczmar to be driven in for a run, giving the Buckeyes a two to zero lead at the end of the third inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Ohio State junior outfielder Josh Stevenson hit a double to center field, but was stranded on base after freshman Mason Eckelman lined out to center field.The game remained at two to one Ohio State until the top of the ninth when Hoya outfielder Jake Hyde singled to center field, driving in Michael Eze for a Georgetown score, tying the game at two apiece.In the top of the 10th, Schaaf hit a double, driving in outfielder Andrew Bergeron and infielder Marco Castillo, putting the Hoyas ahead four to two. Despite getting two men on base, Ohio State could not tie the game back up.
