Missouri wrapped up its challenging 2023-2024 season with an 8-24 overall record. The Tigers, unable to secure a victory in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play, ended with an 0-18 conference record, capping off the year with a first-round exit in the SEC tournament. With several departing players, the team is now looking towards significant roster adjustments for the upcoming season.

Following the conclusion of Missouri’s season, the transfer portal quickly became active, and head coach Dennis Gates wasted no time securing his first commitment for the next season: Jacob Crews from the University of Tennessee-Martin. Opting to spend his final season of eligibility in Columbia, Crews turned down offers from schools such as Gonzaga, Arkansas, and Kansas. Crews arrives after an impressive season with the Skyhawks, boasting averages of 19.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
His prowess extends beyond scoring, with a notable 41.4% three-point shooting percentage. Hailing from Hilliard, Florida, Crews played a pivotal role in UT-Martin’s successful 21-11 (14-4 Ohio Valley Conference) season. Memorable performances include a 35-point showcase in their 77-72 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock in January, and a 33-point display in their 96-87 win against Tennessee State to conclude the regular season.

Before his time with UT-Martin, Crews spent two seasons at North Florida and a season at the junior college, Daytona State. During his tenure at Daytona State, Crews earned a spot on the NCJAA Second Team All-American and was honored as the Central Conference Player of the Year. Standing at 6’ 8 and weighing 201 pounds, he played an instrumental role in the Falcons’ conference victory, contributing to the school’s highest number of wins in its history. Crews’ impressive stats during his sole season at Daytona State included averages of 19.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, which subsequently opened doors for him at the Division I level with the Skyhawks.
Beginning his collegiate journey with North Florida, Crews appeared in 22 games during his freshman year and followed up with nine games the next season. In his debut season with the Ospreys, he started in three games, averaging 4.5 points and 1.9 rebounds. However, his playing time decreased in the subsequent season, where he averaged 2.6 points across nine appearances before deciding to transfer to junior college for further development.
Crews’ addition to Missouri’s roster is significant, as he brings strength to the perimeter with his shooting abilities both from three-point range and closer distances, boasting a 48.5% field goal shooting percentage last season. Standing tall at 6’ 8, he also offers versatility to the team, particularly in rebounding. The arrival of Jacob Crews presents an exciting prospect for Missouri as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming season, with hopes of turning the tide after a tough year.
