The Seton Hall Pirates lost two big games against the top two teams in the Big East. They had a chance to gain some ground on the Big East standings or even punch their ticket to the NCAA men’s tournament. They started the week against the #12 Creighton Blue Jays in Nebraska. The Pirates just never got going, losing 85-64.

After some big wins earlier in the season against teams such as UConn, Marquette, and Providence, the Pirates have struggled to pull off the upsets as of late. The star was Ryan Kalkbrenner, who scored 23 points and did not miss a single shot with 10/10 from the field. Another big performance was Blue Jays star Trey Alexander, who finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and ten assists. For the Pirates, the only performers were Dre Davis and Kadary Richmond. Davis finished with 18 points as he continued his stretch, and Richmond scored 15 points.
On Sunday, the Pirates looked to add a big win after their loss to Creighton by going on the road against the UConn Huskies. But, the Pirates continued to be outmatched by the teams above them in the Big East standings. The Huskies defeated Seton Hall 91-61. The Pirates had no answer on how to stop the Huskies in the paint, as they were outscored 52-30 in that region. Top prospect Stephon Castle led the way for the Huskies, scoring 21 points and being dominant against the excellent Seton Hall defense.

Even with Dre Davis and Kadary Richmond scoring 20 and 15 points, they could not stop UConn. The Pirates will close out the regular season against Villanova and DePaul. These two games will determine the future for the Pirates, as they can punch their ticket to the big dance or be stuck in the NIT tournament once again. We will see what fate the Pirates hold for the end of the season.
