The NFL Combine concluded with the spotlight shining on offensive linemen and specialists on Sunday, capping off a week of intense scrutiny and evaluation. As scouts, coaches, and analysts reflect on the performances in Indianapolis, several prospects emerged as winners and losers, offering insights into their potential fates in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Among the standout winners is Troy Fautanu from Washington. He showcased his versatility and athleticism on the field. Despite concerns about his position transition from left tackle to interior lineman, Fautanu’s impressive display, including a swift 40-yard dash time of 5.01 seconds and a remarkable arm length of 34.5 inches, silenced doubters and bolstered his draft stock.

Braden Fiske, a defensive tackle from Florida State and Western Michigan transfer, continued his pre-draft dominance with exceptional speed and agility, clocking a notable 4.78 seconds in the 40-yard dash at nearly 300 pounds. Joining him in the spotlight were defensive linemen Ruke Orhorhoro from Clemson and Byron Murphy II from Texas. Both impressed with their stellar performances.
On the offensive side, Taliese Fuaga from Oregon State made a compelling case for himself, challenging the conversation surrounding top tackle prospects. Alongside him, offensive tackles such as Amarius Mims from Georgia and Joe Alt from Notre Dame delivered noteworthy performances, living up to the high expectations set for their position group.
Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell from Texas showcased his physical prowess, combining size and athleticism to position himself as a top-tier pass catcher in the draft. Similarly, cornerback Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo demonstrated his speed and playmaking abilities, leaving a lasting impression with a blazing 40-yard dash time of 4.33 seconds. From Alabama, EDGE rusher Dallas Turner and Florida State’s Jared Verse solidified their positions as standout prospects with impressive athletic feats, reaffirming their potential impact at the professional level.

However, amidst the triumphs, there were also disappointments. Austin Booker from Kansas failed to meet expectations, recording an underwhelming 40-yard dash time despite anticipation as a sleeper prospect. Running back Audric Estime from Notre Dame struggled with speed, posting the slowest time among his peers. Additionally, cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry from Alabama’s absence due to injury raised concerns about his draft stock, while his counterparts seized the opportunity to shine.
The combine also marked a symbolic passing of the torch as Xavier Worthy from Texas broke John Ross’ long-standing 40-yard dash record. It sets the stage for a new era of speed and talent in the NFL. As the draft approaches, the performances at the NFL Combine will undoubtedly shape the decisions of teams across the league, with winners celebrated and losers seeking redemption on the road to professional football glory.
