In a hard-fought contest at Memorial Stadium , the Missouri Tigers succumbed to a 68-61 defeat at the hands of Vanderbilt, marking the Commodores’ first conference victory while leaving the Tigers winless in the SEC. Missouri struggled to find its shooting rhythm, concluding the game with a modest 37.3% shooting accuracy. Despite a promising start, the Tigers cooled off as Vanderbilt embarked on a pivotal 10-0 run during a six-minute stretch. Aidan Shaw, the sophomore forward, managed to break the drought with a layup assisted by Curt Lewis, bringing Missouri’s lead to 22-19 with 7:34 remaining in the first half.

However, the Tigers could only muster two more field goals before halftime. Noah Carter and Sean East emerged as key contributors for Missouri in the opening half, combining for 23 of the team’s 29 points. As the second half commenced, Dennis Gates’ squad continued to struggle, making only one field goal in the initial six minutes. Carter ignited a comeback effort with a three-point play, narrowing Missouri’s deficit to 42-37 with 13:47 left in the game.

Tamar Bates added a crucial three-pointer, but a scoring drought ensued until Bates sank a pull-up jumper, cutting the deficit to 47-42 with 8:01 remaining. Despite a late surge, Missouri’s shooting woes persisted, finishing the game at 37% from the field, slightly down from their 37.5% in the first half. Carter led the Tigers with 20 points, while Bates contributed 17, and Nick Honor added 11. Sean East’s steady performance included nine points and four assists.

However, Missouri’s resurgence came a bit too late. Honor’s two free throws narrowed Vanderbilt’s lead to 57-56 with 1:57 to play, but Evan Taylor and Tyrin Lawrence responded with turn-around jump shots on consecutive possessions, securing the victory for the Commodores. Despite a valiant effort, Missouri finds itself still seeking its first SEC win of the season.
