Josh Giddey, the 21-year-old budding star for the Oklahoma City Thunder, appeared to dodge questions about his recent scandal with a potentially underaged girl following the Thunder’s Friday practice. Pictures and video have spread rapidly over social media in the last day that appear to show the Australian guard behaving intimately with a young girl who is alleged to be a sophomore in high school. One of the images shows Giddey standing shirtless in the doorway with the individual alongside the caption “Just f*cked Josh Giddey”.

When questioned about the incident after Friday’s practice; Giddey didn’t reveal much, saying only “I understand the question, obviously, but no further comment right now.” Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault also declined to comment on the situation when prompted by reporters to make a statement.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass released a statement Friday that the league is investigating the potentially inappropriate relationship. Further complicating the issue is the fact that the age of consent in Oklahoma is 16. In addition, the span of time in which these pictures and videos were taken has not yet been made clear to the public. This is a story that could have catastrophic ramifications on Giddey’s career if the facts as we understand them now are accurate.

Along with All-NBA guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OKC has one of the best young perimeter players in the league. They drafted Giddey sixth overall in 2021. He was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and got to participate in the NBA’s Global Academy. Before joining the NBA, he represented the Adelaide 36ers in Australia’s pro league, the National Basketball League (NBL). Giddey was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie Second Team for the 2021-2022 season.
